Samsung Galaxy Motion Cues Setup: Overlay and Quick Settings

On a Samsung Galaxy, grant Display over other apps permission, run the ten-second sensor test, and add the Mulmi tile to Quick Settings before the vehicle moves. Start with Gentle or Reading. Optional ride detection always waits for a passenger tap and does not automatically turn on the overlay.

1. Grant Display over other apps permission

Tap the motion-cue start action in Mulmi. Android opens the special access screen. Select Mulmi and allow the overlay. Return to the app and tap start again.

The dots should appear around the edges while buttons and scrolling in the app underneath still work. This permission is used only for the non-touchable cue window.

2. Run the sensor test

Start the ten-second test before travelling. Tilt the phone slowly left and right and confirm that the dots respond smoothly. If no movement appears, reopen the app and check whether aggressive battery saving is restricting sensor use.

3. Choose a starting profile

• Gentle: quietest dot and movement settings
• Reading: balanced default for text
• Strong: a more visible motion reference

Dot size, opacity, spacing, colour, and sensitivity can be adjusted separately. Lower settings are usually the safer starting point.

4. Add the Quick Settings tile

Fully expand the Galaxy Quick Settings panel and open edit mode. Find the Mulmi tile and move it into the active area. The tile shows the current profile and permission state and can start or stop the shared overlay session.

5. Optional ride detection

When ride detection is enabled, Mulmi displays a prominent explanation before requesting Activity Recognition permission. A detected vehicle entry sends a passenger confirmation notification. It does not start cues by itself.

Only a session started through that notification can stop after an exit transition. Declining permission leaves manual Quick Settings and widget controls available.

Device check

The flow was verified on a Samsung SM-S931N with Android 16: overlay above Calculator, touch pass-through, Quick Settings start and stop, live profile changes, rotation, and fallback after permission denial. Menu names can differ between One UI versions.
